The three-day annual Trashi Yangtse Tshechu is held every year from the 7th day of the first month of Bhutanese calender (Dawa Dangpa). In the past the festival used to take place at Dongdey Dzong, located 5 km from town however since 2014 it is being organised at Trashi Yangtse Dzong.
During festival, the monks, district mask dancers and students from different regional school perform various mask and folk dances and the Tshechu (festival) concludes with unfurling of Guru Tshengay Thongdroel. Thousand of people from nearby villages gather at courtyard of the Dzong to witness this district biggest festival which is display of rich traditional heritage and a carnival like atmosphere prevails.
